Sixteen-year-old Hazel is taken from her awful family and is chosen to be a demi-God by the one and only, Death, because she is the one and only thirteenth child. Hazel has to discover her powers given by Death, to go and solve medical emergencies and she has to choose between her love life or her life as a demi-God. It’s the kind of story that makes your heart race and pound while you keep turning the pages, wanting to reveal what’s more to come.
I liked how Hazel tries to find the truth even when she’s scared. There are lots of twists in the storyline, and every time I thought I knew for certain that something was going to happen, the author surprisingly changed everything. Craig creates tension that feels alive and quiet but also creepy and unforgettable. It’s a Gothic thriller that stays with you long after you’ve finished and is perfect for readers who love stories that are chilling, emotional and full of twists. The one thing I have learnt from reading this book is that the scariest stories are the ones that feel real.
The Thirteenth Child is eerie, gripping and just simply beautifully haunting. From the first page, it takes you on an adventure into a world of secrets, superstition and fear. The writing is dark but stunning, and with every sentence it builds a sense of mystery.
