On opening this book we join Mia and her uncle Eddie, who is taking her to the Big Wok for dim sum.
It’s quite a long way – 10 blocks to the Big Wok! But it’s so exciting – so much to see on the way. We meet one giant panda, welcoming them on the first block with a big gentle smile, and on the second block, two stone lions greet them. On the third block, tireless turtles are swimming in circles right outside Aunty Peggy’s souvenir shop. We see people practising their Tai Chi Chuan in the park.
Every double page we turn features exciting, beautiful things. I want to be eating all the exciting food which Mia is taking home for her Grandmama. All on one page, and we are hungrily checking all the dumplings and wontons and tofu-skin rolls and more. All for her grandmama. Now I want to rush out and visit where Mia is. But first, I’m learning to count from 1 to 10 in Mandarin, so I can order the wonderful food.
