This story begins with Stella, a meerkat, having been snatched from the wild. She’s now in a home within a posh neighbourhood of Paris. She’s to be presented as a pet to a child. But upon seeing Stella, the child says, ‘It’s not pretty like a puppy or cute like a cat. Put it back in, I’m not playing with that!’

Poor Stella is ‘bored and longed to be free – to explore and make friends and discover and SEE!’ So, Stella hatches a plan …

Next time her cage door is opened for food … whoosh Ka, she runs! She darts up the drapes, into a vent, racing through the pipes to freedom. Then she comes across the most famous museum in all of France, the Louvre.

She peers down from above, watching the bustling crowds. At night she comes dangling down to explore, ‘her eyes wide’ with delight. How wonderful it would be to have a kind pal to explore with. But pets were not allowed into the Louvre. ‘This just isn’t right! She knew how it felt to be locked out of sight.’

So, she hatches another plan … to share the beautiful artwork of the Louvre with the animals of Paris.

Stella: The Meerkat Burglar 4 is the fourth book in the ‘World of Claris’ series which features the animal friends of Claris, the Chicest Mouse in Paris, from Hess’ book of the same name. Claris even makes a cameo. This richly illustrated story is about being kind and inclusive, all the while appreciating the famous artworks of the Louvre. Fans of Megan Hess will not be disappointed.
