This clever little book invites us to explore ‘the wonderful world of chickens and eggs’. We meet Violet, a very happy chicken who lives an idyllic life on a farm. She and her friends have a safe and airy coop to sleep in at night and a dust bath close by to keep their feathers clean.
When Violet decides it’s time to be a mum, we learn so many amazing facts about her: how she makes her nesting box, how she clucks softly to her chicks before they’re born and how she turns her eggs many times a day to keep her babies safe. We peek inside an egg to see what is happening day by day until Day 21, when the little chick pokes a small hole called a pip through its eggshell. We also learn many fun things along the way, such as the fact that chickens can see more colours than humans, which helps them find bugs, seeds and berries amid blades of grass.
This book would be perfect for anyone you know who is crazy about chickens. There are fun illustrations, so much fascinating information and even a glossary to look up the meanings of scientific chicken terms.
