One little rockpool.
Two little eyes.
Three little urchins, bobbing with the tide.
In the Rockpool is a delightful counting book, in a larger format board book format, but still perfect for little hands.
We gather at the beach, around a rockpool to peer inside to see what we can see. The creatures look back out through the water to see a little face with eyes. What can see in the glittering water from the sea?
The language in this book is rhythmical, and, with things to point to and count on each page, it is an interactive and fun book to read together.
Hannah Sommerville’s illustrations are just beautiful, colourful yet gentle, bringing back memories of the joy of investigating rockpools as a child. A wonderful way to share the joy of discovery of living things.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Once I gained my pen licence, I graduated to writing and editing school newspapers to radio news headlines, ski resort brochures, Ministers’ speeches, government Dorothy Dixers, community engagement strategies, national park tourism signs, annual reports, travel magazine features and campaign material.
I’ve also managed media for state government departments, coordinated Australian TV and filming location shoots and worked with the Commonwealth Games 2006 media unit.
People-focussed copywriting and organising communications into community engaging tactics has always been at the heart of what I do. I am born to tell stories.
ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR

Hannah enjoys pineapple tea, bullet journaling, knitting and meditation classes. Notably, she often sports pink-tinted glasses, a unique accessory needed due to Visual Snow Syndrome, an uncommon neurological disorder characterized by a continuous visual disturbance that resembles the static of a detuned analog television. The visual snow can be mitigated somewhat by the glasses.
She has won multiple awards including CBCA 2022 Book of the Year – Early Childhood for ‘Jetty Jumping’ (Hardie Grant Children’s Publishing) written by Andrea Rowe. She is currently illustrating her 15th picture book.
