In this A to Z of Australian Geology we are encouraged to explore under our feet. As we move through the alphabet on each double page spread, we learn about the Artesian Basin that covers on-fifth of the Australian continent. We discover craters and find out how they were formed. Did you know that in Murchison, Victoria, a meteorite landed that contained tiny dust grains that are seven billion years old? That was before our solar system was even formed!
Granite is one of the strongest rocks. Limestone is a rock but often formed by fossils. There is much to learn between these pages as we travel the alphabet from pink diamonds, incredible stromatolites and Uluru, which was created by two, large scale geological events as tectonic plates moved.
Finally we end with Zircon. But you’ll need to read this book to find out what that is.
This is a excellent resource for teachers and libraries as it’s clearly laid out featuring side bars with facts, and with not too much information so as to overwhelm, but enough to inspire curious kids.
