Just One Taste is romantic comedy perfection. It’s filled with sizzling enemies to lover’s chemistry, captivating descriptions of its Italian setting, and incredible depictions of food.
Olive Stone’s celebrity chef father has left her with fulfilling his dying wish of travelling to Italy to finish his cookbook for him. The only problem is that he wants her to complete it with his sous-chef, Leo, who Olive’s father had treated like a surrogate son and Olive has hated ever since.
As Olive and Leo travel through Italy together, they find themselves learning more about each other, and breaking down their guarded exteriors, with even a slight attraction growing between them. This trip forces Olive to learn more about herself, her family, and that there may be more to Leo.
When it comes to the romantic comedy element of this book, it’s done with utter brilliance. The chemistry that is evoked from every word of banter and sarcasm from Olive and Leo’s enemies-to-lovers’ relationship is on a whole other level. The tension that this set-up creates kept me hooked, waiting to see if they’d get together. Yet it’s also a book that includes plenty of depth, with Olive’s journey to discover more about her family, and cope with the death of her father creating an emotional connection with readers.
Just One Taste is filled with incredible heart. It is a beautiful portrayal of family and what it means to find out where you truly belong. A perfect read for fans of Emily Henry.
