Two Can Play is a short novella following Viola and Jesse’s romance set in the world of video gaming.
Viola Bowen has the chance of a lifetime: design a video game based on her favourite book series, ‘Limerence’. However, the company she works for, FlyButter, wants to collaborate with Nephilim, their competitor who is also in the running to develop the Limerence franchise. As both companies are rivals, their bosses decide that a wintery retreat is the best for team-building exercises.
Jesse Andrews has made it abundantly clear over the years that he wants nothing do with Viola Bowen. Now Viola finds herself at the retreat, a cold and remote mountain lodge – and Jesse is next door. She discovers there’s more to him than she ever knew.
I really enjoyed this novel. I wanted it to be longer. The author provides a great deal of detail in her characters and plot, despite the shortness of her novella. The writing is fast paced and entertaining. Jesse and Viola’s relationship was not rushed and it felt like it had a natural flow. I really enjoyed reading the exclusive chapter from Jesse’s perspective although I was left wanting more chapters written from Jesse’s point of view.
Overall, this is a very entertaining story. It’s great for readers who also liked Ali Hazelwood’s The Love Hypothesis or video games.
