It is Annie and Mark’s wedding day. Annie had never seen marriage in her future. That is, until she saw Mark on a commuter train on the way to work, when she knew he was the man for her.
It had been a whirlwind romance, and despite their traumatic pasts, they both hoped that happiness was now in their future.
Mark’s first wife had left him, leaving only a note behind, disappearing without a trace. Annie has always had a difficult relationship with her mother, ever since the sudden death of her father when she was a child.
What should have been the happiest day of Annie’s life is tainted by a dark shadow. As she walks towards her future husband, among family and friends gathered to celebrate their wedding, she spots the stranger.
This stranger has started looking into their pasts, asking questions about Annie’s family and about Mark’s first wife, Hope. Annie struggles with the feeling that she is not good enough for Mark, that she is living in the shadow of the memory of his first wife. With a whisper in her new husband’s ear, Annie’s world, and happiness, could come tumbling down. But maybe Mark, or his first marriage, may not have been all that it seems. Is Mark the abandoned husband, or something more sinister?
I enjoyed this tense psychological thriller. As the story unfolded, I never knew until the end who to believe.
