Set in the lead up to World War II this is a gripping historical romance that combines just the right elements of romance, intrigue and suspense that kept me up and reading well into the night. I loved the strong, gutsy heroine, Evie, who is a resourceful, intelligent (and of course) beautiful woman who finds herself entangled with a handsome widow and in some very dangerous waters in Nazi Germany.

Evie is a young widow assisting her father and sister to run a railway station in Yorkshire in England. In the community there is great fear and talk of a potential war with Germany and the local village has been warned to report any unusual activity or suspicious people as the authorities suspect there is a German spy in their midst. Evie meets and falls instantly in love with Roger, a tall enigmatic handsome man whose activities and background raise her suspicions. When Roger is arrested Evie finds herself en route to Munich as a spy. Her mission is to find concrete evidence that Germany is indeed planning to go to war.

The novel really gathers pace here as Evie lands in a number of extremely dangerous situations which require all her courage and ingenuity to survive. Fiona Macintosh is an internationally bestselling author whose latest story about one of history’s darkest periods is brilliantly told.
