The Other Brother is set in contemporary London and follows April and James’s romance.
April discovers a week after her engagement party that her fiance, Lucas, is having affairs with countless women. She swears off men, believing she is not fit for love.
Lucas’s brother, James, a musician, is always chasing the highs of his on-stage performances. His band is on the verge of fame with a chance to sign a record label. James has always had a soft spot for April, but being his brother’s fiance, he always saw her as off limits. However, since her break-up, April and James grow closer, igniting the spark that has always been simmering.
The Other Brother is Tierney Page’s debut novel. It is well written, easy to read, and the writing style creates sizzling tension. The characters are well developed with layered experiences, from April losing her parents to Lucas’s cheating and harsh treatment that James receives from his brother. Also, his family’s lack of acceptance of a musical career.
At times, April and James’s relationship feels like it is moving a little too fast and the author jumps from idea to idea. However, I still found it a compulsive reading experience as the characters are so engaging.
I would highly recommend The Other Brother to readers who are beginning to read romance, as it has fast pace, short chapters and great banter.
