As a little girl opens her hands to reveal her treasure, her mother discovers a smooth purple pebble, blue sea glass and a tiny pale pink heart-shaped shell. Together they walk across the sand to the sea. As the treasure is washed by the salty sea, she looks into her daughter’s hands again. Now she sees a piece of the night sky that fell from the stars, a precious sapphire and a perfectly pearly pink charm of the sea. A mermaid’s jewels. As they look from their sandcastles to the sea they see a ship with precious cargo and adventurous sailors. A treasure ship!

This story is told from the mother’s viewpoint, as together their imaginations fire during a day at the beach. She encourages and watches as her daughter explores. Every moment to be treasured.

Little Treasure is a tug at the heart. It’s beautiful, warm and thoughtful, and I had a tear in my eye at the end. But it was a drop of mother’s love.
