FLEUR MCDONALD is a best-selling rural crime writer, author of The Missing, The Prospect, and her upcoming book The Witness. We caught up with Fleur to ask where she writes and what inspires her.

WHAT’S ON FLEUR MCDONALD’S DESK?

I have a standing desk that I use when I’m editing; the screen is a must and for some reason I can find more mistakes in my work in progress when I’m looking at it on a large screen!

If you look closely, you’ll see some Artist’s Way creativity card. I keep the ‘think magic’ within my eyeline so it reminds me that need to think like that.

The white boards are behind my desk. I have three of them in a row (above them are the covers of my previous books). It’s here that I note ideas for future books and plans.

Even though I have a lovely standing desk and massive office, I spend most of my time at the kitchen table or outside, when I’m writing the first draft. A lovely candle and note book, plus my galah mate hang out with me

Every so often, when I’m a bit stuck or feeling flat, I pull a Little Sage Oracle card.
