Good Reading for Kids caught up with KATIE KIRBY to discuss The Completely Chaotic Christmas of Lottie Brooks, a brand-new ‘Lottie Brooks’ Christmas story.
Lottie Brooks is back! What’s new for her in this latest Christmas special?
As the title suggests it’s going to be a very busy Christmas for the Brooks family, full of mayhem, surprise visitors and festive fun. I think it is one of the silliest and funniest books of the series and I hope you’ll enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.
What kind of Christmas festivities will feature in this story?
LOTS! There is a class Secret Santa, a very embarrassing nativity, a disastrous Christmas dinner and romantic proposals left right and centre 🙂
Will Lottie learn any valuable lessons during this holiday?
She learns a very valuable lesson in this book which is to always be honest – trying to ignore problems, for fear of getting into trouble, only makes things worse.
What’s your favourite thing about Christmas?
Everything! I am a huge Christmas fan – If I had to choose though I think it would be decorating the Christmas tree, watching Christmas films on the sofa with a proper fire (and lots of chocolate) and going to see the local pantomime on Christmas eve – we do it every year, it’s a family tradition. My least favourite things are Christmas shopping and all the cleaning and washing up!
Can you tell us about some of the new characters in this story?
Sure there is Gavin Sparkle Balls – the mischievous Elf on the Shelf, then there is a long lost Uncle Tim and Auntie Sally and a very naughty 3 year old cousin Frankie and her equally naughty doll, Partee Gurl. Finally we get to know the Roux family a bit better too as they turn up on Christmas Eve totally out of the blue. I’m not going to tell you what happens between Antoine and Lottie though, you’ll have to read it and see . . .
ABOUT THE AUTHOR

She has a degree in Advertising and Marketing and after spending several years working in London media agencies, which basically involved hanging out in fancy restaurants and pretending to know what she was talking about, she had some children and decided to start a blog called ‘Hurrah for Gin’ about the gross injustice of it all.
Many people said her sense of humour was silly and immature so she is now having a bash at writing children’s fiction. The Reinvention of Lottie Brooks is her first novel.
Katie likes gin, rabbits, over-thinking things, the smell of launderettes and Monster Munch. She does not like losing at board games or writing about herself in the third person.
