Jenny Nimmo’s fantasy series ‘Charlie Bone’ has received approval for a pilot episode, according to Deadline.
The first novel in Nimmo’s series debuted in 2003 with the novel Midnight for Charlie Bone. Altogether there are eight novels in the series and the franchise includes a prequel trilogy and two follow up books.
The series follows Charlie, a schoolboy who has been haunted by ‘The Noise’ since the death of his father. Unable to cope he gets expelled from every school in London. His last chance comes when he arrives at Bloor’s Academy, a school for teens with special gifts. Here Charlie’s flaws are seen as powers. In turn he settles into the school where he navigates friendships, romances and something sinister.
Filming is currently underway for the pilot episode in the UK. Actor Joseph Fiennes (The Handmaid’s Tale) plays the role of the principal. Actors Carmen Ejogo (The Penguin), Emma Sidi (Starstruck), Orlando Norman (Wreck), Beth Alsbury (Blindspot) also star in the series. Cory McClane plays the role of Charlie Bone.
A young adult audience will be the target of the series. Max Gill is writing the pilot episode and Toby MacDonald is directing.
