From the authors of Wonderful Wasps, comes Fabulous Frogs. This book tells us lots of fascinating facts about Australian frogs in the form of a rhyming story.

We learn some frogs live in trees, some in the sand, some live in swamps or on dry dusty plains. We meet the green barred frog that camouflages itself among the leaves and the famous corroboree frog all bright yellow and black. They are poisonous and do not jump, but crawl instead. The Eastern water-holding frog digs underground, staying there waiting for years until the rains come.

Did you know that frogs shed their skin? As it sheds, they gobble it up! Frogs have no teeth so swallow their food whole. To eat their prey, they push with their eyes! There are frogs that hold their tadpoles in a pouch or lay their eggs on the ground for dad to watch over.

We learn about tadpoles and how they wait until the water becomes a certain temperature before growing legs. Tadpoles keep our waterways clean. As they drink through their skin it’s important for us to make sure we don’t put chemicals on our gardens and our rubbish goes in the bin. In the back of the book is more information about Australian frogs and how to make a frog garden in your yard.

This is another terrific book from this writer and illustrator. High five to this pair. I’m a fan.
