Our little elephant is with his herd. They are walking through the tall grass as the sun rises. Daily they move from place to place. But the little elephant is not sure why they had to keep moving. Will any place ever feel like home?
As the herd stopped by a stream and began to pull fruit from the branches the little elephant’s trunk couldn’t reach that high. ‘This place doesn’t feel like home,’ he thought gazing up. His mother pushed against a tree, bending it towards him and he reached up to grab the fruit. She tells him that she is always here when he needs her. Like trees, their roots make them strong together. As they then stop at a stream his sister helps him, guiding him to shallow water. ‘Like this stream, my love for you will always flow freely.’
But the little elephant is still looking to discover where his home is.
As the herd sleeps one night the young elephant decided to search for a place that felt like home. He travelled further and further away. He became frightened and felt alone. He called as loud as he could, ‘I want to go HOME!’ As the sun rose the ground began to shake. The leaves rustled. Who could it be?
This is a most beautiful book. The illustrations are warm and full of love. It reminds us that home is where our family is. It is where we are missed, where you are loved. Among the tall grass, in the stream, it matters not.
