Breathtaking. Passionate. Compelling. Truthful. Words that most accurately and intricately depict the
contents of One More Mountain. The contrast between the blooming and prospering Afghanistan between the years of 2000 and 2021, and the impact of the Taliban in 2021, accentuates the true struggles of women in Afghanistan as well as the reign of injustice, that has resulted from the ruling of the Taliban, thus evoking empathy and sympathy towards the society. Furthermore, Deborah Ellis’ novel, One More Mountain, empowers members of the society, to never give up the fight for their rights and pursue the provided possibilities and dreams, like Rafi. Overall, One More Mountain, portrays the human nature of battling the evil that has prevailed over the world, therefore constantly seeking justice and equity, hence identifying what is right and what is wrong.
Such a magnificent piece of empowering writing is most certainly suitable for a book club discussion.
