It is a lightning strike that starts a fire at Two People’s Bay.
Fierce flames tear through the scrub:
Roaring, chasing, burning.
They leave only ash and bones behind.
But there is one little animal, young Potoroo, who survives this terrible fire. His little toes are burnt, and his tail is scorched but his little heart is still beating. Two gentle hands lift him out of his hiding place and tuck him into a soft sack. Those gentle but so capable hands then drive him to a safe place where his injuries are attended to.
But our little Potoroo can’t go back to his home. There is nothing left of it.
This is an important story of the survival of the world’s most endangered marsupial, our own Gilbert’s Potoroo. It also tells us of the conservationists who have made a safe place for Potoroo and his friends to go.
Every page in this book is beautifully illustrated with little Potoroo tugging at our heartstrings. This is a book that all children should be introduced to.
There are free Teachers’ Notes, an author’s note and lots more information about our much-loved Potoroo.
