This fun book is as much for adults as it is for kids.

Meet pea, an independent little vegetable. While all the other peas are sticking with the pod, this little pea wants to strike out alone, to find fame and fortune.

The pod spends time showing pea the reasons to stay. Look at how we can work as a team! But pea said, ‘I want to be a star!’ So the pod showed pea how they can make a picture of a star together. They arrange themselves in all sorts of ways to show pea how they can work together to achieve dreams.

But our little pea said ‘I’m different. I’m an individual!’

The pod didn’t give up and showed pea how one single pea can’t do some things. Together they can work with things like roast dinners and pasta and even sausages. Suddenly pea understood. One pea does not make a soup. Pea decides to take the pod and together they will reinvent peadom!

The Independent Pea follows on from the author’s well-received Letters For Lunch, which also has a vegetable theme. Maree Coote’s books are as much a work of art as a story and quite beautiful,

This story of this little pea shows us that even though we are a part of a team we can still all be individuals. As we read, puns abound, making it as fun for the adult reader as the young ones.

A clever book.
