His name is David. He’s the boy with flowers in his hair And he’s my best friend.
David’s best friend is telling this story. He says everybody likes David including Mrs Jones, their teacher, because he’s so sweet and gentle. David has flowers instead of hair and his best friend also tells us that once David had a family of birds living in his hair. That was so funny! But one day something happened. When he was watering David’s hair, his petals began to fall off and David didn’t want to play anymore. The next day he was very quiet and started wearing a hat.
But what happens when Mrs Jones asks us to take off our coats and hats? David’s secret will be out. No more flowers, just spiky twigs. But his little friend comes to the rescue.
This is one of those stories that tugs at the heart strings.
Very few words on each page but the illustrations of the faces of the children tell it all.
