Like so many other students I was introduced to Shakespeare in my first year in High School. Yes, I had read Lamb’s Tales from Shakespeare, with many thanks to my big sister, and enjoyed them, but it never crossed my mind to wonder who this William Shakespeare was. But, now that I have opened this book, I’ve learnt that many people believe that Baby William was born 23 April 1564 and baptised a few days later at Holy Trinity Church in Stratford-upon-Avon. I also know, as a child he lived in close access to rivers, meadows and woods, and, because of this, they often appear in his writing such as in the enchanted forest in A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

As I turn the pages of Shakespeare for Everyone I learn that it would have cost you just one penny for admission to Shakespeare’s theatres, standing room only, whereas the rich people could pay to sit on the actual stage. Shakespeare wrote at least 38 plays, comedies, tragedies and romances and around 160 poems! All of these come alive as we turn the pages of this book. Every page has incredible, bright and lifelike artwork that sucks us in and helps to tell us the story of the world’s greatest playwright.

If you are a teacher, student or just a lover of Shakespeare from your teenage years you will fall in love again with this amazing playwright.
