Ottoline lives in an apartment building that, according to the locals, looks like a pepper pot. She shares her flat with her hairy friend, Mr Munroe, who is reminiscent of Cousin Itt from The Addams Family. Ottoline’s parents are rarely home because they travel the world collecting things – nothing specific, just whatever takes their fancy – which they send home to Ottoline. But don’t worry about her being alone. A team of professionals provides her with everything she needs: meals, a cleaned apartment, plumped pillows. One day Ottoline and Mr Munroe meet the extraordinary Purple Fox, a teller of tall tales who takes them on a guided tour of the city at night.

In his series of stories about Ottoline Brown, Chris Riddell has created a world of whimsy and charm, brought to life by his quirky illustrations. Ottoline is a resourceful and creative young lady who, despite missing her parents, manages to cope very well. Of course, having a friend like Mr Munroe is a bonus.
