But what could I do about it? That was the question that 17-year-old Daisy Jeffrey was asking herself. This question sparked a worldwide revolution of student-driven climate strikes. On Hope recounts Daisy’s story and reveals what prompted her to take action. She tells of how she became one of the organisers for the School Strike 4 Climate and why she chooses hope over indifference and stands up to speak out for those who need her most.

I remember first hearing of the strikes and wondering how a 17-year-old managed to do it. In 2018, Daisy Jeffrey was attending the School Strike and planning more of them. Meanwhile, I was in Year 8 barely passing maths and trying to find my way in the world. She managed to become a global influencer for students who wanted to speak their beliefs.

Daisy not only speaks of her successes but also of her failures, which she acknowledges in a constructive way (something everyone should be doing!) She spoke of the time when she was in Year 2 and attempted to solve the Global Waste Crisis. She sent off a letter to Malcolm Turnbull for him to approve the idea and was greatly disappointed when he told her the idea was impossible to pull off. She talks about how it compelled her to push forward. Later in life, this resilience would help her start a global phenomenon, the September 20 School Strikes.

Overall, I adored On Hope. It showcases Daisy’s strong nature and personality. She has inspired me to stand up for what I believe in and this book has pushed that inspiration to a new level. I could not put this book down!
