Hamlet is Not Ok is a funny and clever story about friendship and courage. At the beginning of the book, we are introduced to Selby Michael. We learn that she is having a hard time at school – she doesn’t have any friends and she’s behind in most of her subjects.
When her parents discover that she hasn’t been doing any of her homework because she’s been watching so much TV, they put their feet down. She has to get tutoring lessons. And her tutor is none other than Dan, her brother’s friend.
They start with her English homework. In class they have been studying William Shakespeare’s play, Hamlet. So, Dan makes Selby read out the play and as she does, they are transported into the play itself! Incredibly she meets the character Hamlet and what follows is a huge adventure that requires Selby to act bravely.
I really enjoyed this book and its characters. I also like that it helped me understand the play, Hamlet.
