Owl loved sitting on a branch looking up to greet the stars in the night sky. When one evening his favourite little star had not appeared he becomes very worried and decides to go look for her. He searches all over the world. One night he hears a faint cry. He looks down to see a soft flickering light by the river.
He flies down, landing gently to scoop up the little star in his feathers. Her light is fading and she is not strong enough to find her way home into the night sky.
Owl takes her with him, resting peacefully on his shoulders as he flies into the night sky, going up and up, further and further. He is tiring, but the little star’s light is almost gone. Owl has to hurry. With all his might, he flies higher and higher.
Moon and Sun had been watching all this time. At the cusp of dawn they set out to save Owl and restore the little star’s sparkle.
With her bright, colourful illustrations and an Indigenous story beautifully told, this is another special book by Helen Milroy that would be well told under the blanket of the night sky.
