Mim lives in the peaceful sandy water where the frothy ocean meet a calm river. But who is Mim? Maybe a brown spotted flatfish gliding along the soft, sandy seabed? Or a colourful spiked longfish with venomous spines. Oh wait, that’s not right, she’s a hermit crab creeping along over sharp shells on the seabed. Nope, that’s not her either! Could she be a seahorse daydreaming happily?
Aha, spoiler alert, now I see her. Mim is actually a mimic octopus whose favourite game is to pretend she’s something other than what she is very clever.
Meet Mim is an entertaining book which has us trying to guess who Mim is on every page and shows us just how this clever creature can move and change form to mimic other creatures of the sea. Included in the back are five fun facts about the octopus. Did you know that octopus’ have a centralised brain, but each of its eight arms has a ‘mini-brain’ that can taste, touch and move independently.
