Along, long time ago when our universe was just new, special things could happen. At this time a crow spirit was waiting to come down to earth to take her place among the crow clan. But her journey was altered and instead of being born as a baby crow she was born in the form of a human baby.
As the family gathered around their newborn, they saw that they were also surrounded by the entire crow clan. Both humans and crows understood that the child had been given the gift of two spirits, human and crow. They agreed to name her Daisy Crow. Understanding that their crow baby would have to grow up with humans, they ensured the oldest and wisest of crows, Arrk, would always stay close to her.
As Daisy Crow grew up, she and Arrk would explore and talk about a great many things. She discovered her crow spirit could travel at night, but she had to be back by first light or she would remain a crow. When a great fire rises up in the landscape Daisy Crow finds she must make a difficult choice.
Helen Milroy does great justice to her Indigenous heritage with all her books, Crow Baby included. She lovingly tells this enchanting tale and fills the pages with her brightly coloured artwork. Beautifully done.
