Australian Animals: From Beach To Bush begins with a partial image of our planet showing Australia, our magical land, situated at the bottom of our globe. ‘Let’s take a journey to meet curious animals that call Australia home.’ We will travel from beach to bush and find animals, some of which are vulnerable, endangered or even, sadly, extinct.
As we turn the pages we are presented with pastel coloured illustrations full of animals. In the coral reefs we have to search for clownfish, great white sharks and dugongs. We learn that the humpback whale is of least concern. In the tropical rainforests we search on the pages for Bennett’s tree kangaroo and a saltwater crocodile. We learn that the Australian cassowary in endangered. We travel on through the savannas, desert, wetlands and mountains. On the last pages we search for the thylacine, Tasmanian emu and rusty numbat and learn that they are extinct.
Brentos explains to us that animals are irreplaceable treasures that all play a part in their habitat. We need to ensure we support endangered animals. Finally in the back of the book they tell us about the things that we can do to help.
