Andy and the rest of the ‘Sugarcane Kids’ (named by Eli’s grandmother for their habit of zipping between the sugarcane crops on their bikes), live in a small town in far north Queensland.
The friends take their wild, natural environment in their stride. There are deadly box jellyfish in the water and crocodiles behind the skate park. There’s also a huge, friendly, Queensland groper fish named Jerry. But Jerry goes missing and dead fish keep washing up on the beach. Meanwhile the local Mayor, Raymond Royce, is planning to build a contentious resort at Angel Bay – the kids suspect fishy business.
Charlie Archbold’s third book in this series, is a fun, exciting, environment-themed read, full of nature facts (did you know the collective noun for spiny lobsters is a risk?), friendship and teamwork. Suited to the higher end of the 8-12 bracket and ideal for class reading.
