Luna Wilkinson is 12 years old, scared of the woods near her new home and desperate to be cast in Bite Me, the school musical about vampires. She’s a triple threat: she can sing, dance and act, but her biggest obstacle is the cool, mean girl, Vivian, and her two offsiders. Vivian wants the lead role and will do anything to get it. To practice her lines, Luna gets her younger brother to help. In return she has to kick a soccer ball with him. Which works really well until he kicks it into the scary woods.
She reluctantly goes after the ball but is bitten by a strange creature. When she gets back home, she finds that every second sentence is filled with swear words. While researching at the library, she meets a boy, Knox Garrity, who helps find a man, Morgan Crowe, who tells her about the creatures: they’re Swearwolves (which explains her swearing), and that to reverse the curse, she must eat a berry from a tree in those same woods.
But, since the Swearwolves surround the tree, she’ll have to fight them first. She wins that battle and reverses the curse, but her battles are far from over. The Swearwolves have their own battles. They’re battling Duskweavers: creatures who can fly and shoot blue fire from their fingers and who want to remove the Swearwolves from the woods.
Luna is tricked by Vivian and vows revenge. How she does it isn’t recommended for you at home. So, is the book any good? You xxxxxxx bet it is! (And parents, just so you know, that’s how the swearing will look.)
