Louise Candlish is the author of 17 books. The Only Suspect won the Ned Kelly Award for international crime fiction in 2024 and Our House has been made into a four part drama series.

Our Holiday is set during the month of August and closely follows two different families who have arrived at their summer holiday homes in Pine Ridge for a relaxing break away.

Together they are enjoying the warm weather and family time. But things start to go from bad to worse when violence and vandalism occurs by a protest group called Not Just For August (NJFA). They are protesting about second home owners who amplify housing prices for the local residents who can’t afford to live there.

There were a variety of aspects that I enjoyed about this book.T he dual timelines of the narrative makes the story feel more compelling and engaging. The characters are well developed.

The story is suspenseful, with twists and turns that did have me guessing. But although it had all the characteristics of a great destination thriller it was a slow burn to read. Still enjoyable, but not my favourite book by this author.
