A young woman is found lying peacefully on a bench in a children’s playground. Her hair and make-up is perfectly done and she is neatly dressed. But the black velvet ribbon around her neck hides that her throat has been cut. And the sign on her chest reads ‘Bad Mommy’.
As Lieutenant Eve Dallas starts investigating, she discovers two other young women have recently gone missing. Eve is in a race against the clock to uncover the link between them. Working with colleague Dr Mira to psychologically profile the killer, Eve uncovers a twisted family history. But will she be able to unmask the killer in time to prevent further deaths?
This is the 54th book in this long-running futuristic police procedural series. The relationship between recurring characters is sketched out well enough that a new reader has no trouble following along.
This story weaves back and forth between its setting of 2060 and 50 years earlier. It is well paced, with an intriguing plot and an array of colourful secondary characters, including Eve’s billionaire husband, Roarke.
I found Abandoned in Death a fun stand-alone read, but long-time fans will no doubt enjoy this book even more.
