Bestselling Alice-Miranda books turned into animated movie

Oct 2018

Production has begun on an animated drama-comedy telemovie, Alice-Miranda Shines Bright, based on Jaqueline Harvey’s bestselling children’s books. The series has sold over 850,000 copies in Australia and 1,000,000 internationally. Now it is being turned into an 80 minute television film, which will premiere locally on Nine Network.

Jo Rooney, co-head of drama at Nine said: ‘We know that Alice-Miranda has a great following with young readers, and Jacqueline Harvey is one of Australia’s top female children’s authors. We believe all the right ingredients are in place for this dynamic Australian children’s drama to be a huge success.’

An all-female creative team runs SLR Productions. Sally Caplan, head of content and Screen Australia, says they have crafted ‘a smart and inquisitive protagonist in Alice-Miranda, who young girls can look up to.’

Nine Network will premiere the show first. Then it will be distributed internationally to the UK, North America, Germany, Brazil, Hungary, Turkey and Indonesia.
