Divergent author, Veronica Roth, to publish two new books

Oct 2018

Buckle up Divergent fans, HarperCollins has just announced that it will be publishing two new young adult books by Veronica Roth. The no. 1 New York Times best-selling author best known for the Divergent trilogy and Carve the Mark duology.

The short story collection by Roth titled The End and Other Beginnings: Stories from the Future is due for release in late 2019. The novel, which takes place in futuristic societies and post-apocalyptic worlds centres around advanced technology. Among these stories is “Inertia,” which has already been optioned for film by Fox 2000.

Roth has said of the collection: “What really unites [the stories] is that the characters are trying to process some kind of ending. That’s something I remember about my teenage years. Learning how to lose things, whether it was friends or (in my case) boyfriends or loved ones. Whether that loss was death or growing apart or just growing, period. So whatever worlds these stories are in, they are always about that profoundly human feeling. About the first few times we practice resilience.”

HarperCollins has also secured the rights for an untitled YA novel by Roth in addition to The End. The novel is slated for release in 2021.

Roth is also venturing into adult fiction with an unnamed adult science fiction novel, despite her substantial YA fan base. The title is due for publication mid 2020.
