Jennifer Lynne Barnes’ YA novel Little White Lies is headed for the small screen. Independent studio Wii are developing the series.
The novel was first published in 2018 and follows teenage auto mechanic Sawyer Taft whose estranged grandmother offers her a six figure contract to move in with her and participate in debutante season. While Sawyer initially recoils from the idea, she ultimately accepts her grandmother’s offer in the hopes of solving her absent father’s identity. What follows is a twisty, gasp-inducing world of the Debutantes.
The sequel, Deadly Little Scandals, was published in 2019 and continues Sawyer’s search for her father.
In an interview with Deadline, Mark Roybal of Wiip said, ‘Jennifer has crafted a twisty mystery set in a glittering, glamorous world, all seen through the lens of a young woman searching for identity and the truth about her family. We are delighted to collaborate with this amazing team to bring the contemporary debutante society to the screen.’
In an Instagram post, Barnes shared her news about the tv adaptation: ‘Exciting news for fans of my debutante series! I’ve been keeping a slew of Hollywood secrets lately, so it’s very exciting to get to share this one!…I am thrilled beyond belief to be working with this amazing team!’
