This fun picture book explores the wildlife of the Australian bush and all their different types of poos.
Wallaby poo contains bits of chewed up hair, bandicoot poo is full of crunchy insect parts and termites build mounds of poo with soil and spit and air to keep their babies cool. Seal poo looks like dog poo but smells a little fishy. Birds combine their wee and poo. Ew! Snakes can go for weeks or even months without pooing! Parrotfish have sandy poos and echidna poo sparkles in the sun. And the wombat? Well, their poos are square!
Surely with all this going on there must be poos everywhere. Let’s meet the amazing dung beetles!
This terrific picture book shows us the variety of poos but also how these help nature regenerate through providing nutrients for the land, to the dispersal of seeds. Or like whale poo that feeds the phytoplankton which ‘helps them grow and thrive as well as make oxygen to keep us all alive’.
The rhyming text makes the story fun to read aloud. In the back of the book there is a glossary of terms and more information on each animal where you can learn that if an emu eats a lot of seeds their poos are pyramid shaped and more fascinating facts. Did you know that birds don’t fart?
A terrifically fun and informative book. It’s sure to elicit some giggles and squirms, but also encourage curiosity about the world around us. And who doesn’t love a poo book!
