Caution! This Book Contains Deadly Reptiles showcases over 60 ‘deadly’ reptiles across 20 Indigenous Nations of Australia.

As we turn the pages we are introduced to each nation and many reptiles living there. We learn about their appearance, what they do, where they live, how they reproduce and what makes them ‘deadly’ (or cool).

From snakes to lizards, crocodiles and geckos, this book teaches us whether they are endangered or venomous, helping us build understanding of the natural world around us.

Caution! includes the AIATSIS map (which represents the language, social or nation groups of Aboriginal Australia). The helpful and friendly introduction explains the book’s purpose and how Corey chose the languages and the nations he featured.

There is a glossary with explanations of terms like ‘deadly’, Country and others relating to Indigenous culture. This is a colourfully vibrant book with images that pop from the page, and words that readers might be learning for the first time in bold. It’s easy to dip in and out of, especially if you want to explore a specific nation or reptile. A great starting point for a class exploring reptiles.

Caution! adds to the increasing number of books for young readers that share Indigenous knowledge, not only helping us understand Indigenous culture but also engaging us with the natural world in a very enjoyable way.
