In 2020, over 200 books worth more than $4.5 million (AU) were found buried under the floor of a rural property in Romania.
According to the Associate Press, the haul, which included first editions of works by Galileo and Isaac Newton, are alleged to have been stolen from a warehouse in London by members of a Romanian organised crime gang, in January 2017. With a level of planning straight out of Mission Impossible, the gang are believed to have cut a hole into the warehouse’s roof and abseiled in, dodging alarm sensors as they secured the loot.
