A woman is missing and there is no body. DC Clements feels the odds of finding her alive are not looking good. This case is proving to be unusual and very complex, as the missing woman was married to two different men, and this has set the media on fire.

Both men love the missing woman, who has two names. Kylie Gillingham is happily married to her husband Mark and stepmother to his two sons. Kai Janssen is happily married to Daan Janssen, a wealthy Dutch Banker.

There is evidence that Kylie/Kai was violently abducted and held captive in a room in an uninhabited apartment two floors down from the Janssen’s own apartment. DC Clements feels this is not a coincidence.

Meanwhile, Stacie Jones has gone back home to heal after surgery to remove a brain tumour. Memory of her life prior surgery has been lost so her father is helping her to remember her childhood hoping that will help. Her world is about to change.

From the very first page of this book you hit the ground running. There is so much going on and as more of the mystery of Kylie/Kai life is revealed you are also introduced to the people in her life. But then, unfortunately, the novel stalls.

In hindsight I feel this novel needed help in terms of structure. I didn’t connect with the characters and was at times just baffled by their motivations. The ending seemed rushed and very unsatisfying, which is a shame, as the set up was great and I was initially hooked.

Just Between Us has a great plot but feels poorly executed. Disappointing.
