Back in 1979, Tulo Gordon recorded these stories and illustrated them. Now, in this new edition, his gorgeous illustrations are still there, but now the stories are not only in his own language, Guugu Yimithiri, but also in English for us to enjoy: From the first Milbi story, Mungurru Bula Jirimathirr, which in English says Mungurru, The Scrub Python and the Endeavour River, to the very last, Bamaal Gunbu Dumbi which translates to The Big Dance and the Angry Old Woman.
All 15 stories are told so well and explain such mysteries as why Gugaa, the kookaburra, laughs at Carpet Snake, and why Old Frill Lizard still has a lump in his throat. Every page in this book is such a pleasure to look at as Tulo Gordon has used such vibrant and rich Indigenous colours that make the little stick people and animals come alive. This book gives us a wonderful insight into Aboriginal culture and should be read to all children at home and in the classroom.
