Alistair Haston has just broken up with his girlfriend, Ellie. She has left for Greece where her family runs a restaurant on one of the islands. He still thinks about her, a lot. In fact he is a bit obsessed. He is not normally impulsive and usually conservative. But her leaving him has made him decide to throw caution to the wind and book a holiday in Greece himself. He is a bit nervous but it will be a great adventure. And anyway, he secretly hopes he might bump into her, accidently of course.
As Alistair boards the boat for the islands he meets an Australian, Ricky, who is a fun, over-confident guy who invites him to join some guys and girls who are also heading to one of the islands They spend the trip getting drunk. Alistair can’t remember falling asleep but when he wakes up he discovers he has no passport and no money. What had happened, where was his stuff ?
Arriving on the island he sleeps rough but manages to find some work. Then Ricky turns up, offering him a job that seems to be too good to be true, finding models for an artist to meet and paint. And maybe something else if they are keen.
I don’t want to share too much of this story as it’s something you should discover yourself. But I can tell you it is a very crazy tale. In fact, there were times when I thought it was so crazy I started to laugh out loud. The pace is quick and engaging. Towards the end I felt like I was reading a young man’s diary, written down like a stream of consciousness, as the story was coming at me so fast.
If you can suspend your disbelief then you will enjoy it for what it is. A wild ride.
