It was a random accident that brought two strangers together, the impact shattering the lives of all those closest to them. Aiden did a terrible thing to Sophie, and he is willing to do all that he can to make up for the devastation he caused, determined to atone for the guilt that wracks him despite what it will do to his wife, Chloe, and daughter Jasmin.
But is Sophie McCarthy all that she seems? Her life and body is ruined by Aiden. Can she really forgive him when others cannot? To her father she is a born fighter, ambitious and smart. But he is blinded to her faults and wants revenge, desperate for Aiden to pay for what he did to his daughter. To her work colleagues she is an exacting boss and a bully. Chloe wants her husband and their life back. But what does Sophie want? What is she capable of and what has she done before?
The Missing Pieces of Sophie McCarthy is a story of intersecting fates, of guilt and consequences. It is a tale of revenge and atonement, pain, and taking responsibility for the results of your actions. It is also an interesting exploration of the blurred lines of bullying, a serious issue in society.
What makes a bully? What is the difference between being assertive and being intimidating, between high standards and unreasonable demands?
Right from the start this book hooks you. B M Carroll slowly and skilfully reveals the real character of Sophie McCarthy. I really enjoyed the short, sharp chapters of alternating characters that builds the tension to a satisfying ending. A gripping read from start to finish.
