I am the small
green pea
you are the tender pod
hold me
Beautiful words like these sing to us as we gaze at Stephen Michael King’s soft and evocative paintings. A little family is running from danger. They find a small boat that takes them across the sea. They sail through sunny days, black nights and driving rain, not knowing where they’re going but hoping to find a safe home. This book is intoxicating. I’ve turned so many times to its poetic words and lost myself in the beauty of the illustrations. It’s for everyone: from the small child on your knee to the great-grandma sitting in the sun.
