Aboriginal communities across Australia have boundaries that are defined by mountain ranges and waterways.
To cross these boundaries or enter community country you need permission from the neighbouring community. Each community has its own way of welcoming to country.
In this book Aunty Joy Murphy welcomes us to the traditional lands of the Wurundjeri People.
Wominjeka Wurundjeri balluk yearmenn koondee bik.
She acknowledges her ancestors and tells us about Bunjil the eagle, who is their creator spirit. She then invites us to accept a leaf from the white river gum as a sign that we are welcome.
The artwork on every page in this book is the most beautiful and captivating that I have seen. The detail and magnificent colours draw us in to the mystical world of creation and the rich life of the Wurundjeri People. Don’t miss this book. It should be in every school library so that all children can feast their eyes on these wonderful pictures and take the time to find out to what they are telling us.
