In this short, fun junior fiction book written by Jol Temple and illustrated by David Conley, we meet two Ancient Grecian kids, Hector (a boy) and Hylo his centaur best friend, as they cram for an upcoming test on myths (Hector loves them, Hylo … not so much). They discuss variations on The Trojan War, the maze of the Minotaur and the Gorgon Medusa.
The myths in Ludicrous Legends are told in a tongue-in-cheek way. They are liberal with the details but sticking to the essence of the story. Each tale includes an explanation of the main character/s and a comic to make it easier and more fun to follow. Although the age guide for this book is seven, I would suggest eight due to Greek Mythology’s rather violent content.
My nine-year-old (already a mythology fan) and I took turns reading, and he thoroughly enjoyed it.
