Rewind to Us is a stand-alone young adult time-travel novel. This book follows Dixie who has one plan for the summer – to tell her closest friend, Sawyer, that she’s in love with him. That is, until she sees him kissing someone else.
Dixie decides to use the Rewind. Dixie’s family members each have a Rewind – a single opportunity to redo a moment from the last 365 days. Dixie must replay the conversation that sealed their relationship’s fate. Could Dixie receive her happily ever after by turning back the clock or could it end in disaster?
My enjoyment of this novel was stifled a little as I felt there was a lack of character development with Sawyer. It would have been more interesting if readers also got his perspective. Overall, I felt the characters needed further development, and there were too many whose presence added little and did nothing to shape the story.
However, I really liked that Dixie and Sawyer referred to famous movies throughout Rewind to Us. The concept of time travelling made it more interesting, fun to read, and there is some great writing.
A good book for readers who love movies, friends to lovers, drama or emotional chaos.
