Things take a turn for the worse when the world of Palude starts to collapse. Suddenly Sala is forced to let her fear go, if she wants to survive what’s coming.
Set in a strange but intriguing world, I was immediately drawn into its eerie universe. Shapter blends the dystopia, fantasy and sci-fi genres, masterfully weaving everything together without it feeling overly complicated. Her world building is incredibly detailed while leaving space for a personal and character driven story.
It’s gripping, immersive and slightly haunting. The flawed characters are compelling and easy to root for. Recommended for fans of sci-fi or unforgettable reads.

I write from a castle in a flying city hidden by a thundercloud, reaching across age and genre into the heart of storytelling.
Author of the science fantasy adventures ‘When Dark Waters Burn‘ and ‘When Dark Roots Hunt‘, the science fiction adult novel ‘Towards White‘ and co-author of the middle grade science fiction ‘Into Tordon‘, among others, I love conjuring journeys into the beyond and unusual, sharing original stories and uncommon sights… Because life is magical. Life is about searching for improved existences and converting the unfamiliar into something more recognisable.
To date I’ve won over a dozen national writing competitions, including a Ditmar Award, the Australasian Horror Writers’ Association Writing Competition, and the Glen Miles Short Story Prize. My short stories have appeared in ‘Midnight Echo’ as well as their Australian Shadows Award-winning ‘best of’ anthology, Hugo-nominated ‘Sci Phi Journal’, ‘Antipodean SF’ and Award-Winning Australian Writing (twice).
