This is the second in the ‘Bravepaw’ series for younger middle grade readers, following on from Bravepaw and the Heartstone of Alluria.

Titch, her offsider Huckleberry and their small puffling friend Dollop have become lost after saving their homeland plateau from the curseworms in Book One. Not knowing where they are going, they have the misfortune to come across Rotwood Mire with its resident Bogbungler monster.

Rescued by a warrior squirrel armed with a sword and a bow and arrows, they reach safety but discover that Briar’s home village is under the spell of a turtle wizard called Muskeg. The brainwashed squirrel residents call him Lord and give him all their gathered berries. Together, Titch, Huckleberry and Briar work out what is happening and set out to break the enchantment affecting both Muskeg and the squirrels, defeat the curseworm and restore Muskeg’s green gem to the Heartstone staff.

This action-packed sequel maintains the excitement and engagement of the first in the series. Lavanya Naidu has illustrated this volume as well and at the end inside the back cover the reader is informed that the series will continue with Bravepaw and the Fangstone of Flintfall.
